Algebra anyone?
Here's a nice review for those who've not done algebra in a while:
2x + y= -1 , y=-3x
solve for x and y
enjoy! (oh and i'll have the solution in the comments, if you decide to try and answer, then check your work)
and you know, if you substitue x and y with real numbers, starting with 1 for x, it comes out really easy that way, too. :) (comes from SAT Prep where you try to not do algebra to figure out the problems!)

2x+y=-1 , y=-3x
(-2x)
y=-2x-1, y=-3x
(1/3)y=(1/3)-3x
1/3y=x
y=-2x-1 , 1/3y=x
y=-2(-1/3y)-1
y=2/3y-1
(-y)
-1/3y=-1
(-3/1) ->(an inverse)
y=-3
-------------
(-3)=(-3)x
1=x
you know Jess, it's so much easier if you just put in (-3x) for y in the first equation. Like so:
2x + y = -1, y = -3x
2x + (-3x) = -1
-x = -1
x = 1
y = -3(1)
y = -3
and you know, if you substitue x and y with real numbers, starting with 1 for x, it comes out really easy that way, too. :) (comes from SAT Prep where you try to not do algebra to figure out the problems!)
but it all comes out the same! :)
hehe thanks for the tips =D
Wow! My brain still works! I figured it out without paper! :-D I'm so proud of myself! ;)
yay I was right!
